New site launched for mental health resources on campus (posted Feb. 9)
Faculty and staff are key resources for students and can play an important role in identifying students in distress and assisting them in finding resources. It is also important all campus community members are aware of mental health related resources available for their own health needs. Western has a number of services and resources that can assist.

Published a book recently? Register by March 9 for the 2012 Faculty Author Reception (posted Jan. 30)
Faculty members at Western are invited to participate in the Annual Faculty Authors Reception on Thursday, April 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Book Store at Western, University Community Centre.
Faculty authors who have published books recently, 2011 & early 2012 and are interested in participating should register online or contact Stephen Cribar.
The deadline for participation is March 9, 2012.
Please note space is limited to 30 authors. We will include some edited books as space allows.
Nominate your greenest colleague for the Western Green Awards (Jan. 31)
Nominations are being sought for the Western Green Awards to recognize contributions to sustainability on campus.
Deadline is February 27 and can come from anyone who wishes to recognize the activities of a Western campus community member (student, faculty or staff). (more)

In Memoriam
In memoriam - Sheng Yu (posted Feb. 2)
Sheng Yu a full professor at the Department of Computer Science, died on January 23, 2012 at the age of 61. Sheng had 22 years of service at Western. He obtained both his Masters and PhD degrees in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, in 1983 and 1986, respectively. His main research areas were in automata and formal language theory and their implementations. He also worked in parallel and object-oriented programming languages. He has served as program committee chair and member for a number of conferences, as well as editorial board member for several other journals. He has published more than a hundred and thirty research articles and was an established researcher in his research areas.
Beloved husband of Lizhen Zhang, dear son of Runqing Liu and the late Youlong Yu, loving brother of He Yu, Zhe Yu, Rui Yu, Lei Yu and the late Li Yu.
His funeral service will be conducted at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond St., on Friday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation prior from 10-11 a.m.
In memoriam - Gary Ferguson (posted Feb. 2)
Retired faculty member Gary Ferguson died on Dec. 4, 2011 at the age of 70. Prior to his retirement in 2007 he had 34 years of service.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Mary Elizabeth Ferguson (nee Kirkpatrick). Dear father of Stephen and his wife Kathryn of London, Heather Ferguson and her husband Stephane Elibani of Gatineau, Quebec, and Sarah Ferguson and her husband Paul McCracken of Toronto. Loving grandfather of Alexander Chaboud, Benjamin Chaboud, Laura Ferguson, Anna McCracken, Marc Ferguson, Katie McCracken and Juliana Ferguson.
He received his Medical Degree in 1965 (cum laude) and his Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics in 1970 from the University of Western Ontario. Gary is internationally recognized as a leader on research in stroke prevention surgery.
