Yves van de Peer explores the newest biological frontier at its intersection with computer science, statistics, mathematics and genetics to develop new approaches in the area of bioinformatics that will aid in the analysis of complex genomes. The Western Bioinformatics adjunct professor will deliver his special seminar, Bioinformatics in the post-genomic era: New approaches to analyze complex genomes, at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Chemistry Building, Room 9.

Van de Peer has a long-term collaboration with Biology professor Mike Grbic's laboratory at Western working on the genome sequencing and analysis of first chelicerate pest genome (

Van de Peer obtained his PhD at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, in 1996. Currently, he is a full professor in Bioinformatics and Genome Biology at the Department of Plant Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Ghent University. He is also the VIB Group Leader at the Department of Plant Systems Biology at Ghent.  Van de Peer is leading a Bioinformatics and Systems Biology group, which consists of about 25 people.
