Olsen to deliver Bernier lecture

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry welcomes Dr. Bjorn R. Olsen of Harvard Medical School for the fourth annual Suzanne Bernier Lecture in Skeletal Biology.
His lecture, entitled From Ectopic Bone Formation to Hemangioma Tumor Regression: Remarkable Consequences of Endothelial-Mesenchymal Transition, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 13 in Auditorium A, third floor, University Hospital.
Olsen is the Hersey Professor of Cell Biology, Harvard Medical School as well as a professor of developmental biology and dean for research for Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He has made contributions to the fields of extracellular matrix biology, genetics and cell and developmental biology.
This lecture series honours Dr. Suzanne Bernier, colleague, collaborator and mentor, who passed away in 2007 at the age of 42, after battling breast cancer. Bernier was a founding member of the Canadian Arthritis Network. At Western, her research focused on the effects of extracellular matrix and inflammatory mediators on chondrocytes. While battling breast cancer, she was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2006.
