Nutrition Month celebrates from field to table

March 07, 2011

In celebration of March as Nutrition Month, the Dietitians of Canada student branch at Brescia University College is holding several events to promote this year’s theme of “Celebrate food … from field to table!”

On Tuesday, March 8, a Nutrition Month conference will be held at Brescia with several London entrepreneurs speaking on the growing local food movement and its impact on local businesses. Guest speakers include Ann McColl Lindsay, Woodfield Cooks co-editor; Jennifer Thompson, Carolinian Winery; and Diane O’Shea, O’Shea’s Farm owner.

The conference runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the auditorium of the St. James Building. Admission is $5, with a full lunch and snacks being provided. Participants will have a chance to participate in food trivia games and win door prizes.

For additional information, contact the Nutrition Month Committee at nutrition.month@gmail.com.

On Wednesday, March 16, celebrations are set for the second annual National Dietitian’s Day.

The Nutrition Month Committee will have a booth at the UCC with information about the role of the dietitian and the importance of good nutrition. Noelle Martin, RD, the University Students’ Council (USC) nutritionist, will be on hand to answer questions about nutritional concerns.
