Physical Plant gets name change

Physical Plant is heading in a whole new direction. And it starts with a new name.

As part of its new strategic plan, the division formerly known as Physical Plant & Capital Planning Services changed its name to Facilities Management on July 1.

Gone, eventually, will be the iconic circle logo appearing on uniforms, vehicles, stationery, etc. With the help of Communication and Public Affairs, a new logo will be designed as soon as the university defines its brand standards in the coming months.

However, some visual aspects, namely the webpage, have already adopted the new name.

“I am very aware there will be some growing pains, and a lot of work associated with this huge step forward,” says Roy Langille, associate vice-president of facilities management, “but I am sure we are all up for the challenge.”

In late May, the division’s Strategic Planning Steering Team presented a new strategic direction to Langille. Focused on customer service, benchmarking and stronger alignment with university’s strategic plan, Facilities Management’s plan will guide the division through the next three or four years and raise its profile as a leader in facilities management.

“We’re building on our successes from the past, and help us mold a brand-new department,” Langille says.

Langille, only two years on the job, is joined by a number of new team members across the division. These new faces have inspired new directions.

“We have a lot of new players with new ideas on how we can be better,” he says. “We want to put a whole new projection out there about what we are. We’re excited about getting started. And we now have a new name to go with that new direction.”
