Leenat Jilani, a political science student at Brescia University College, and Connor Lyons, a second-year political science student at Western, are two of 21 youth nationwide selected to be a Canadian Ambassador on Global Vision’s Junior Team Canada.
As a youth ambassador, Jilani will promote Canada and Brescia in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia from Aug. 4-19 and have the opportunity to network with high profile government officials and business representatives in the three countries she will be visiting.
Lyons, recently accepted into the Richard Ivey School of Business, says the idea of Global Vision’s Junior Team Canada is to get sponsorship from a particular business in their area of interest.
“In return for that sponsorship, we will represent them,” he says. “We’ll have to network in the London business community and identify what that Canadian business might be able to provide to Indonesia.”
His three sponsors include, Active Care Management, Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association, and London Economic Development Corporation.
Jilani has big plans to promote Brescia. The Canadian Ambassador for each country she visits will host a dinner in which Junior Team Ambassadors, government officials, and business leaders are invited to attend. It is her responsibility to network and setup meetings with various leaders. Her intention is to promote Brescia University College to prominent scholars, teachers, and Ministers of Education.
“As part of the education team I want to promote Brescia at secondary schools and universities, speaking to youth about pursuing an education in ‘the west,’” she says. “I just want to let them know that such an awesome school exists.”
After the trip, Jilani and Lyons will be compile a market report and contact list to share with their supporting companies, as well the Minister of International Trade, Ed Fast, and other officials in Canada. Read more about Global Vision’s Junior Team Canada.
