Physiology and Pharmacology merge

By Jim Anderson
June 25, 2002

A proposal to merge the Departments of Physiology and Pharmacology and Toxicology has been approved by Senate and will be considered by the Board of Governors at its meeting today.
The new Department of Physiology and Pharmacology will be established on July 1, 2002 if approved by the Board.

All current faculty, UWOSA and PMA staff will be transferred to the new department with no loss in seniority or job classification.

A report from the Senate Committee on University Planning said "the two departments have much in common, including shared space in the Medical Sciences complex, the background and training of a majority of their faculty members, their research interests, pedagogical outlook and general philosophy."
