Huron University College's "Great Minds and Great Hearts"
fundraising campaign has exceeded its goal of $5.75 million. The
campaign, which kicked off in October 1998 and concluded on April
30, 2002, raised $6.15 million through the contributions of alumni,
parents, friends, corporations, foundations, churches, faculty,
staff and students.
"The outpouring of support was tremendous," said W. Darcy McKeough, Campaign Chair. "More than 2,300 individuals and organizations contributed to the Campaign, which helps keep the College strong and one of the jewels in the Canadian university community."
"The success of the Campaign is a tremendous vote of confidence in the College," added Dr. Ramona Lumpkin, Huron's Principal. "We are fortunate to have so many volunteers and donors who believe strongly in Huron's mission and whose gifts demonstrate their support for the College's work."
The money will be used to support the construction and renovation of facilities, including the O'Neil-Ridley residence, classrooms, seminar rooms and student service areas. Support will also be given for the creation of scholarship and bursary endowments to attract students and provide needed financial assistance, both in arts and social science and theology.
Donations included $1 million from the Branscombe Family Foundation, the largest in the history of Huron, and $500,000 each from the City of London and Dr. Mary J. Wright. Huron also received $565,000 at the bequest of the late Gertrude Millward.
