Western’s state-of-the-art athletics stadium has a new name. TD Stadium, formerly known as TD Waterhouse Stadium, will be home to a new season of Western Mustangs varsity athletics.
The name change reflects the overall brand evolution at TD and the TD Waterhouse name is retiring as a result. The renaming received approval from Western’s Board of Governors in June and is now underway – just in time for the upcoming fall season.
“Western values our long-standing relationship with TD and we are working with them to phase in the new name in time for the 2013 Mustang football season,” said Thérèse Quigley, Western’s Director of Sports & Recreation. “Visitors to the stadium will see a new concrete block sign above the main entrance as well as other signage in and around the stadium and on printed and online materials.”
The TD Waterhouse branding on the artificial turf will remain unchanged for its remaining lifespan.
“Player safety is our top priority and it is not possible to safely insert a new logo into the turf,” added Quigley. “When it is time to replace the turf on the entire field, we will consider the best options for branding with our sponsor.”
“London has always been a special place for us at TD as we have been present in the area for over a century – and we have been extremely proud to be a part of the community,” said Howard Thompson, Senior Vice President, Western Ontario Region, TD Bank Group. “We are thrilled that we can continue our support of the stadium at Western University and we look forward to working together in the years to come.”
All infrastructure costs related to the name change, such as signage, will be covered by TD.
The Mustangs football team plays its first home game of the season on Sept. 2, 2013 at 7 p.m.
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
