Don Wright Faculty of Music students have the opportunity to perform with renowned Canadian brass musicians, True North Brass.

The quintet, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary season, is the 2008-09 Artists in Residence in the Faculty of Music. Students will have one-on-one instructional time, masterclasses, as well as small chamber group coaching with the musicians.

Members of the wind ensemble will also perform with the True North Brass on Thursday (Nov. 27) at 1 p.m. at Banting Secondary School. There will be a repeat performance at Agincourt Collegiate Institute in Scarborough on Friday (Nov.28) at 1 p.m.

“Preparing for this concert with them has been very inspiring,” said Paul Brown, a third-year Music Education major in the wind ensemble. “The Concerto Grosso by Tull features very virtuosic playing.”

Two of the five musicians are Western graduates. Raymond Tizzard and Richard Sandals both completed Bachelor of Music degrees on Trumpet and Tizzard also earned a Masters of Music at Western.

“Having these high-caliber guests for our students to listen to, play with, and learn from is a fantastic opportunity for our students,” said Sasha Gorbasew, Faculty of Music Recruitment Officer. “These musicians are so talented as performers, educators, composers, and arrangers.”
