University of Western Ontario Philosophy Professor Lorne Falkenstein can now add Canadian National Masters Track Cycling Champion to his list of accomplishments.

Philosophy Professor Lorne Falkenstein

Falkenstein, a two-time Teaching Honour Roll recipient and winner of the Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching, recently competed in the national competition in Quebec where he returned home with a medal in each of the events he entered:  three silver medals (Individual Pursuit, Time Trial, and Match Sprint) and one bronze (Points Race) in his classification (age 50-59).

Gold in each of these competitions was taken by a French citizen, so Falkenstein's silver medals were awarded with the title of Canadian National Champion in those events.

Falkenstein did his two kilometre individual pursuit qualification in a time of 2:39.798 seconds averaging 45.057 km/h for the course, and was 6.157 seconds off the pace set by former World Champion Gérard-Louis Robert. Falkenstein's 500 meter time trial was clocked at 38.517 seconds from a standing start, averaging 46.733 km/h for the course, and 1.471 seconds off the pace set by Robert.
