Western again tops Globe survey
Tuesday, October 16, 2007
The University of Western Ontario “consistently boasts the most satisfied students in the country" according to today's Globe and Mail University Report Card that again ranks the campus tops among the nation's large universities.
For the sixth year straight, Western ranked
number one among large Canadian universities - the only one among 16 large
universities to earn a grade of A for most satisfied students.
The survey, presented in magazine format and
also accessible online, includes a front-end article headlined: How Western
stays on top. Of note in the observations of students who were interviewed is
the fostering of a sense of community and spirit.
“Our mission at Western is to provide the
best student experience among Canada's leading research-intensive
universities," says Western President Paul Davenport, “and these results
confirm for the sixth year in row that we are achieving success in that
mission.
“Our leadership position in the University
Report Card pays tribute to the commitment of our faculty, staff, and students
to making Western a unique place to study and learn, both inside and outside
the classroom. Credit for our number one ranking should also go to our alumni,
who have strongly supported our mission."
The survey was completed by more than 43,000
students and now includes 53 schools. Large universities were those with
enrolment of more than 22,000 students.
In all, Western placed first among large
universities in 12 of 19 categories and tied for first place in another.
Western was also one of five Canadian
universities identified as being “on top of the technology wave" with special
mention of the WiFi network, and easy web access for students, faculty and
staff to blogs, podcasts and RSS feeds. The library system provides access to
more than 40,000 electronic journals.
Western ranked number one in the following major
categories (with grade attached): most satisfied students, A; quality of education,
