The Way Forward, Rethinking the Problem of Workplace Sexual Harassment will be presented in a premiere showing at the Althouse Faculty of Education Auditorium today at 7:30 p.m.

It is a video that takes a new look at an old problem. In it, lawyers, law enforcement officials, human resource professionals, community-based activists, support workers and women who have experienced workplace sexual harassment, present hard facts, gathered from research and personal experience. These experts realistically assess the costs, both human and economic. Admission is free and open to the public.

The video comes to life through the stories of three women: Theresa Vince, who was killed in 1996 at the SEARS store in Chatham, Ontario by her boss; Bonnie Robichaud, whose complaint against the Department of National Defense was responsible for a landmark ruling by the Supreme Court of Canada on employer liability for a harassment free workplace; and Sharon Chapman, whose victory in a prolonged civil suit against her employer, 3M, includes the right to continue to speak openly about her case.

A panel of experts will discuss where we have come from and where we are in terms of dealing with this problem. They will explain how to use this video which is part of an educational package most effectively. Panelists include Sharon Chapman, whose story is featured in the video, Catherine Burr, human resource expert and Sandy Welsh, assistant professor of sociology at the University of Toronto.

Jacquie Carr will make a special address to commemorate the 6th anniversary of the death Theresa Vince, her mother. The video is dedicated to Theresa Vince and all women who experience workplace sexual harassment. It is produced for the Sexual Assault Centre London and the Centre for Research on Violence Against Women and Children.
