Thames Scholars, a 16-voice vocal ensemble, will perform a concert of early and recent music today at 12:30 p.m. in von Kuster Hall.

On Wednesday evening, vocalist Patricia Stiles and pianist Davis Hart will collaborate for a performance in von Kuster Hall, in the Music Building beginning at 8 p.m.

Both performances are free.

Stiles studied with Phyllis Bryn-Julson, Oren Brown and also coached with Joan Dornemann, Martin Katz, Erik Werba, and others. She is a recipient of a Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund for Music grant.

She has performed over seventy operatic roles including Carmen, Dalila, Eboli, Octavian, Orpheus, Ortrud, Erda, Rosina, Dorabella, and Cherubino with international opera houses including National Theater (Munich), Semperoper (Dresden), Leipzig Opera, Duesseldorf Opera, Washington Opera (Kennedy Center). She has given numerous recitals, has appeared as soloist with several European orchestras, and has presented master classes in Germany, Austria, Italy, Mexico, Russia, and the United States. She also has recordings with Musical Heritage Society, Embassy Sound, and Cavalli Records.

Stiles returned to the United States in 1998 to teach voice at Indiana University. She has students performing in opera houses in the U.S., Austria, and in Germany. Her students have been winners in numerous contests including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

Hart started playing the piano at the age of four. He is classically trained and continued his education on violin at the age of twelve. At age eighteen he started to compose his own music and produced and recorded his own album at age twenty-one.

Hart has had the luxury of traveling with such artists as Jason Upton and Michael Shaun. Other accolades include playing with the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Denver Young Artists Orchestra. Davis has also had the privilege of recording at the “Music Box” studio in Nashville Tennessee. His latest project “Love’s Gift” is an eclectic blend of new age and easy listening music designed to soothe and relax. Hart and his wife Heather currently reside in South Florida.
