One of North America's most prominent sociologists working in the field of child sexual abuse will visit The University of Western Ontario this week to discuss prevention strategies, including offender management and school-based education programs.
David Finkelhor, co-director of the Family Research Laboratory and a sociology professor at the University of New Hampshire, will speak at the forum sponsored by the Centre for Research and Education on Violence against Women and Children on Thursday, Nov. 11. The event, which runs from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., will be held at Althouse Auditorium in Western’s Faculty of Education.

A recipient of the Distinguished Child Abuse Professional Award by the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, Finkelhor is recognized internationally for his conceptual and empirical work on the problem of child abuse.

Following Finkelhor’s presentation, a panel of local experts, presenting the voices of survivors and professionals working with the child protection, criminal justice and education systems, will further explore the topic.
