In Memoriam: Philip J. Linden

Professor Emeritus Philip J. Linden died July 7 at the age of 89. He retired from the Faculty of Education in 1984 with 19 years of service at the university.
A funeral service will take place July 11 beginning
at 2 p.m. at the Church
of St. John the Divine in
Arva. Visitation for family and friends will be at 1 p.m.
The main university flag will be lowered during
the time of the service.
Born in England,
Linden served
with the British Army throughout the Second World War. After coming to Canada he was
appointed captain in the Canadian Army and served in militia units of Royal
Canadian Signals, receiving the Canadian Forces Decoration.
After graduating from The University of
Western Ontario, Linden taught secondary school in London, later becoming a founding member of
the English department in Western’s Faculty of Education.
Linden is survived by Alice Mary Linden, his wife of nearly 54 years, and children
Matthew Linden, Anna Linden-Fraser and David Linden, as well as a number of grandchildren.
