DIPLOMAS: University Senate last Friday approved changes to the design of Degree Diplomas, Certificates and Diplomas. The new paper stock is "80M Classic Crest Cover, Solar White." Senators were informed that Parchtone, a parchment style paper used for years, is lighter weight that the proposed paper. Diplomas are first embossed with a gold metallic Seal of the University, and the individual diplomas are printed. In the case of Parchtone, "it has been our experience that the embossed seal is flattened considerably during the second part of the process," according to the motion background. "This problem will be reduced significantly by using the proposed paper."

INTERNET: A new option "facilitating easy licensing of the work of journalists and that of other intellectual property creators for electronic use" will be introduced in Room 110, Middlesex College, on Wednesday, November 25 from 7 to 9 pm. PART-TIME: Part-time enrolment accounts for 11.7 per cent of total tuition revenue in 1998-99, Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Greg Moran informed Senate Friday. Responding to a senator's question at the October meeting, Moran said the part-time tuition figure in 1996-97 by comparison was 14.8 per cent of total tuition revenue. The part-time revenue percentage has remained stable, he noted, even though overall revenue from tuition sources has increased 20 to 30 per cent between 1997-97 and 1998-99.

Guided by Wesch, the Mustangs in the last five years have an Ontario playoff record of two silver medals and two bronze. This year, Western was defeated by Guelph in the provincial final. In addition to coaching, Wesch has been the scrum half on Canada's national team since 1992.

VISUAL ARTS: More than 200 people attended the Universities Art Association of Canada (UAAC) annual conference hosted by the Visual Arts Department November 5 - 8. In addition to two full days of scholarly presentations, delegates from across Canada and the United States enjoyed art exhibitions and film viewings both on and off-campus, a guided tour of London's Victorian architecture, and a gala banquet at Spencer Hall. Madeline Lennon, Chair of Visual Arts, said this year's conference was exceptionally well-organized thanks to the tremendous efforts of the department's faculty, staff, and dozens of student volunteers.
