One of the most important – yet least celebrated – dates on the university calendar is March 7.

On that day in 1878, the long and winding history of The University of Western Ontario officially got underway with proclamation of The UWO Act.

A university’s birthday is known around the world as Founder’s Day, and on Saturday Western will be blowing out the 131 candles on its cake.

A fledgling initiative to boost the profile of Founder's Day is getting underway at Western. Alumni, supported by university Alumni Relations staff, hope in the future to make Founder’s Day a time to celebrate.
