Some of Ontario's leading thinkers on workplace violence, as well as relatives of two women murdered in the workplace, will be gathering at The University of Western Ontario this week.

The Centre for Research and Education on Violence against Women and Children (CREVAWC) at the Faculty of Education is hosting a Workplace Violence Prevention Think Tank on Oct. 29-30.

Adding to the importance and timeliness of the forum is the fact that Ontario’s government is currently taking a hard look at possible enhancements to the Occupational Health and Safety Act against workplace violence.

In attendance will be Barbara DuPont, mother of Lori Dupont, a Windsor emergency room nurse who was killed by a physician co-worker in 2005, and Jacquie Carr, daughter of Theresa Vince, a Chatham woman who was murdered by her manager at the Sears store where they both worked.

In addition to representatives of CREVAWC and Western’s Faculty of Law, participants include representatives of the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Ontario Safety Association for Community & Healthcare, the Ontario Nurses' Association, the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC), the Industrial Accident Prevention Association, the CAW and the Ontario Provincial Police.
