Community challenged to help Haiti
Thursday, January 28, 2010
A benefit concert held in the Don Wright Faculty of Music last Friday raised more than $510 for the Red Cross to support the relief effort in Haiti.
The fundraiser was organized in support of a Haitian student in the
faculty, whose family was directly affected by the tragedy. Although part of
the regular noon-hour concert series, visitors to von Kuster Hall were asked to
make a donation.
“Because we are such a small faculty, anything that happens within the
faculty really affects us all,” says Rebecca Watson, a second-year Music
student. “It was really important to us to make an effort to contribute to the
work that is being done there to help the poor people.”
Other groups on campus are helping to raise funds and awareness.
