Campus radio station launches documentary contest
Tuesday, March 18, 2008
If you've ever listened to an audio documentary and thought 'I can do that', community radio station CHRW wants to hear from you.
Stories in Sound, an audio documentary workshop and contest
sponsored by CHRW offers $300 in prizes and a chance to make a
five to ten minute audio documentary.
“Campus and community radio stations like CHRW have a unique
opportunity to create great talk radio,
including audio documentaries," says station manager Grant Stein.
“We have a
lot of creative freedom that can translate into innovative talk programming you
won't hear on commercial talk stations or the CBC."
The short documentaries will be judged by a panel of CHRW
staff and volunteers, community members and faculty from The University of
Western Ontario's journalism program. Documentaries will be judged on strength
of story, originality and creative use of sound. The top three winning entries will be broadcast on the station.
Contest entrants or those considering entering can attend an
audio documentary workshop on March 25 , 7 p.m. in Room 379 of the University Community Centre. Workshop presenters include Wendie
Crouch of Western's journalism program and David Scott, playwright, broadcaster and editor of the Western
Alumni Gazette.
The deadline for entries is April
18.
