Legal and literary minds will take to the stage to present "Shakespeare in Court: A Play with Appeal" on Thursday, March 4 at 6 p.m. in Western's Conron Hall.

In The Merchant of Venice, Portia delivers a famous judgment in the dispute between Shylock and Antonio. Is that judgment correct? After actors perform the play’s trial scene Earl Cherniak QC, representing Shylock, appeals his sentence to the Western Law Moot Court. In response, Ontario Attorney General Chris Bentley will represent Antonio.

The appeal will be heard by Justice Ian Binnie of the Supreme Court of Canada, Justice Eileen Gillese of the Court of Appeal for Ontario, Antoni Cimolino, General Director of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Professor James Purkis from the Department of English at Western and legal journalist and author Jeffrey Miller.
