The Honourable Justice Richard Goldstone, former chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, will deliver the annual Claude and Elaine Pensa Lecture in Human Rights on Thursday.

Goldstone will speak on 'Accountability for War Crimes'. The lecture takes place Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 38 of the Faculty of Law. All are welcome to attend this free public lecture.

Goldstone is the author of numerous articles on international humanitarian law. More recently, he has written about the challenge to individual human rights posed by counter-terror measures in Human Rights in the 'War on Terror'.

He is known for his role as chairperson of the 1991-1994 Commission of Inquiry Regarding Public Violence and Intimidation, which helped pave the way for the transition from apartheid to democracy in South Africa.

In April 2009 Goldstone was named as the head of the independent United Nations fact-finding mission to investigate international human rights and humanitarian law violations related to the 2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict.
