Brescia University College is the top choice among a greater number of Ontario university applicants this year.

Earlier this month, the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) reported applications to Brescia from high school students in the province had increased by 4.8 per cent over last year.

Registrar Marianne Simm is pleased to see these results because Brescia has made a significant investment in raising awareness of Canada’s women’s university among female high school students.

“We are talking much more about the value of the Brescia experience through the accomplishments of our students, graduates and faculty,” she says. “As demonstrated through the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) rankings, Brescia has consistently ranked amongst the highest universities for its supportive campus environment. This translates into a very engaging learning environment at Brescia.”

In the past two years, Brescia has rebranded, launched a lively marketing campaign, and revised its Facebook page. Among a number of events designed for high school applicants, Brescia will host the third annual Take the Lead high school public speaking contest on April 9, which awards the winning contestant with a full year’s tuition to Brescia.

Sheila Blagrave, director of Communications, Marketing & External Relations says Brescia values the honest communication of messages from current students and other members of the Brescia community.

“In all that we do at Brescia, from non-scripted but first-rate videos to the contests we host and the tours we lead for prospective students, we encourage a two-way communication with students,” says Blagrave. “We are quick to tell others about all that Brescia has to offer, but we also listen well. I think that has a bearing on our strong results in surveys such as NSSE and in the applicants who are choosing us as their first-choice university.”
