With the end of classes less than a month away, the campus is a beehive of lectures and presentations. Here is a small sampling of events over the next few days. Check the Events link in the bar across the top of the homepage for more presentations.
Romeo Dallaire visits Western
A first-hand account of betrayal, racism and international politics during the Rwandan genocide will be presented by from the man who led the UN mission. Romeo Dallaire, Canadian General of the United Nations in charge of the peace mission in Rwanda in 1994 and author of “Shake Hands With the Devil," will speak on Friday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall. Perspectives from Lamanai
Elizabeth Graham, an eminent archaeologist and honorary member of Western's Department of Anthropology, will present “Why Jared (Diamond) and Mel (Gibson) are Wacko - The Truth about the Collapse and the Conquest: Perspectives from Lamanai" on Wednesday, March 12 at 9 a.m. in the Social Sciences Centre, Room 2257. Graham is the former Archaeological Commissioner in Belize and is now director of archaeology of the Belizean Maya sites of Lamanai, Marco Gonzalez and San Pedro.
Medicine & Classics
This week's Medicine & Classics: Ancient history for the medically minded teams Nigel Crowther from the Department of Classical Studies with Don Morrow of the Faculty of Health Sciences to discuss training for the Olympics - comparing its earliest days to present day games. This free lecture, sponsored by the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, takes place Wednesday, March 12 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Martha Bishop Room at the Landon Library. Sing Yourself to Better Health
March's Classes without Quizzes lecture looks at inter-relationships between choral singing and health. Victoria Meredith, Professor, Department of Music Education, Don Wright Faculty of Music, presents her research, which indicates that singing in choirs can improve physical and psychological health, as well as physical fitness. The free lecture is scheduled for Thursday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Windermere on the Mount, 1486 Richmond Street. Please visit http://communications.uwo.ca/CWQ/

The South India
story
A public lecture on Saturday at Huron University
College will examine the
unique view on the history of religions developed by the South Indian
missionaries and the Madras Orientalists, and explore reasons for their
distinctive perspective. Leslie Orr, an associate
professor in the Department of Religion at Concordia
University in Montreal, will present the free public lecture
at 7:30 p.m. in the Huron Room.
