Western is launching the Global Opportunities (GO) Awards as a means to afford more students the opportunity to study abroad.

Approximately 50-100 awards valued at between $1,000-$2,000 will be presented this year thanks to private donations matched by Western. The campaign goal is to establish more than 400 GO Awards by 2016.

Students will be selected to receive scholarships based on a combination of academic achievement, financial need, length of study and cost of experience. They will also be required to submit a short statement outlining what they expect to learn through their program of study and how they will be an effective ambassador for Western.

“These awards are related to president Chakma’s focus on internationalizing Western,” said Lise Pedersen, International Learning manager. “In an effort to produce ‘global-ready graduates,’ Western provides a variety of international learning opportunities, and these awards are evidence of our commitment to help students fund these types of activities.”

Students can access the application form from the Global Opportunities website. Application forms are also available at the International and Exchange Student Centre in the Western Student Services Building, Room 2120. Application deadline is March 30.
