Thursday, September 6, 2007
International opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti died early this morning at his home in Modena, Italy at the age of 71.
Theodore Baerg, Coordinator of Opera and Music Theatre at the Don Wright Faculty of Music, The University of Western Ontario, specializes in vocal performance and is available to comment on Pavarotti's life and legacy.
Baerg is a world renowned baritone and once shared a dressing room with Pavarotti on opposite nights at the San Francisco Opera.
He says, "Luciano Pavarotti was without question one of the greatest singers of our time and certainly the greatest tenor. His contribution to opera in the modern media age has been a major factor in its popularity. His vocal gift and ability to share it with an audience was absolutely amazing."
