Monday, January 24, 2011
Western President Amit Chakma announced today a record-breaking gift of $631,487 to United Way of London & Middlesex on behalf of the University's faculty, staff, retirees and students. The total surpasses last year's donation of $590,383, making it the largest donation ever to the local United Way.
At the formal announcement this morning in Western’s Great Hall, Chakma and Carol Stephenson, Dean of Western’s Richard Ivey School of Business and Chair of the 2010 United Way Campaign, thanked and congratulated the more than 1,330 individual donors and 100-plus volunteers who drove the campus campaign well past its goal of $600,000, including retiree co-chairs Dr. Sarah Galsworthy and Pat Fyfe, faculty co-chair Joan Finegan, Associate Dean (Social Science), and staff co-chair Malcolm Ruddock, Executive Assistant to the President and Provost.
“Western and United Way have a long and proud history,” says Chakma. “I commend the commitment and dedication of our campus United Way volunteers, and sincerely thank our students, faculty, staff and retirees, for their generous donations, which have a tremendous impact on the local community.”

“Western faculty, staff, retirees and students continue to demonstrate, year after year, what it means to be partners in creating a community where everyone matters,” says Andrew Lockie, CEO of United Way of London & Middlesex. “This record achievement is momentous for both Western and our entire community as it will create lasting change in people’s lives right here in London and Middlesex County.”
Western's support of this year's United Way campaign included the provision of two Sponsored Employees: Alex Kulczycki, who worked in support of Western's campus campaign, and Kristin Robinson, who worked in support of the campus campaign at Fanshawe College.
