Michael Ignatieff discusses Canada's political relationship with the U.S. at Western

Less than 48 hours after Americans returned Barack Obama to the Oval Office, Michael Ignatieff visits Western University to dissect the political landscape between Canada and the United States in a talk titled, "Us and Them: Opponents and Enemies in Politics."
 
The free public event, which is part of the Centre for American Studies and the Canada-U.S. Institute's Speakers' Series, is scheduled for Thursday, November 8 in the Spencer Engineering Building, Room 1059 at 4:30 p.m.

Following the presentation, a book sale and signing is scheduled in Spencer Engineering Building, Room 2100.

A celebrated Canadian scholar and former leader of the federal Liberal Party, Ignatieff was educated at the University of Toronto and Harvard University. The author of 17 books, Ignatieff has also worked as an editorial columnist, documentary film maker, and university professor. He has lectured at the University of British Columbia, the London School of Economics, and Harvard University, where he was Director of the Carr Center for Human Rights at the Kennedy School of Government for five years.

Between 2006 and 2011, Ignatieff was the MP for Etobicoke Lakeshore, Deputy Leader, and Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. For the academic year 2011-2012, he was Senior Resident at Massey College, University of Toronto. He is also a member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada and holds 11 honorary degrees.
