Western University's popular complimentary lecture series, Classes Without Quizzes, returns with one of Canada's leading researchers in educational psychology, Vicki Schwean, Dean of Western’s Faculty of Education.
Citing recent studies indicating that 800,000 Canadian children aged 4-17 struggle with a clinically diagnosable mental health disorder, Dean Schwean will address what can be done to better serve children and young people who are experiencing health concerns that impair their ability to function well at home, school and in the community.
“The current system of delivery of mental health services for children is fragmented,” says Schwean. “It is very difficult for children and their parents to navigate the system to get the help they need.”  Dr. Schwean’s talk will explore the crucial role parents and educators can play in ensuring the needs of these children are met. Schwean will also discuss the importance of the newly established Centre for School Based Mental Health at Western’s Faculty of Education.
The lecture will take place Monday, December 10 at Stevenson Hunt Room, Central Branch, London Public Library (251 Dundas Street). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m.
