Summer positions available at McIntosh Gallery

Western's McIntosh Gallery is looking to fill three, 14-week summer grant positions.
The gallery has been awarded the positions from Young Canada Works in Heritage Institutions, a federal job creation program that provides students with career-related employment experience in museums and galleries. Each position begins May 17 and involves assisting gallery staff in exhibition planning and collection research. The available positions are...
 
Archival Assistant – Successful applicant will work exclusively on the organization of a defined collection of archival materials by arranging, classifying and changing storage conditions for the material utilizing the strict protocols established for archival collections. The position also involves researching items in the collection for potential relevance to a planned future exhibition and scanning journal pages into a computer database to assist curatorial research.
 
Assistant in Collection Management – Successful applicant will assist the collections manager by entering information into the collection database, conducting the biannual inventory of the collection including assessment of condition and conservation needs, and reorganization of location and retrieval methods.
 
Curatorial Assistant – Successful applicant will assist the guest curator of the exhibition “Mapping Medievalism in the Canadian Frontier” in various ways including: researching objects in the collection for display; writing labels and wall text; assisting with exhibition planning and design; assessing objects for conservation and framing needs; and editing short essays for publication.
