Former Chief UN Prosecutor to deliver 2009 Pensa Lecture in Human Rights - Sep. 17

The Honourable Justice Richard Goldstone, Former Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, will deliver the 3rd Annual Claude and Elaine Pensa Lecture in Human Rights.
Goldstone will speak on 'Accountability for War Crimes'.
Goldstone is the author of numerous articles on international humanitarian law. More recently, he has written about the challenge to individual human rights posed by counter-terror measures in R. A. Wilson, ed., Human Rights in the 'War on Terror'.
He is also known for his role as the chairperson of the 1991-1994 Commission of Inquiry Regarding Public Violence and Intimidation, which helped pave the way for the transition from apartheid to democracy in South Africa.
In April 2009 Goldstone was named as the head of the independent United Nations fact-finding mission to investigate international human rights and humanitarian law violations related to the 2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict.
The 2009 Claude and Elaine Pensa Lecture in Human Rights takes place on Thursday September 17, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 38 of the Faculty of Law. All are welcome to attend this free public lecture. A public reception will follow.
