Research promises tears of joy for diabetics

A simple pair of contact lenses may soon alleviate the need for diabetics to regularly draw blood in order to test their glucose levels.
 
Through the use of nanotechnology, Chemical and Biochemical Assistant professor Jin Zhang is using extremely small particles embedded in the hydrogel contact lenses to monitor and report on changing sugar levels in the body.

Danone gift supports probiotic yogurt research

Gregor Reid and Mama Joyce at the community kitchen in Mwanza, Tanzania that distributes probiotic yogurt as part of the Western Heads East project.Probiotics research pioneer and Schulich professor, Gregor Reid of Western will hold the first research chair in Human Microbiology and Probiotics at Lawson Health Research Institute thanks to a $7-million donation from international yogurt maker Danone Group.
