International conference in London aims to improve global health

Whether it’s contamination leading to chronic disease on Walpole Island near Sarnia, or the detrimental health effects of cotton farming half-way around the world in India, the environment has a direct link to health. Ecohealth is just one of the themes being tackled in a conference being held by Western University’s Office of Global Health at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. “Transcending Borders: Towards Global Health,” runs Friday, April 27 to Sunday, April 29 at the London Convention Centre.

Shantanu Basu and University of
Vienna's Eduard Vorobyov present a new model of brown dwarf formation
that unites the best parts of existing theories and has far-reaching
implications for understanding the population of low mass objects in the
universe.

The name says it all: Sharing Smiles Day. On Saturday, April 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Great Hall in Somerville House at Western University, dental practitioners, students, faculty and staff from Western’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry are partnering with Community Living London and the organization Oral Health, Total Health (OHTH) for the third annual Sharing Smiles Day. The event is aimed at removing barriers, raising awareness, and educating dental students and dentists about the importance of oral health care for persons with special needs.

Canada is delivering more of its trademark blue buzz today as the
technology giant is contributing a landmark $65 million of computers and
software to Western University, which will exponentially enhance the
collaborative efforts already underway between the two partners, as part
of a recently announced $210 million research and development
innovation network.
