Nominations open for community rep on Senate

Nominations are now being accepted for a Representative of the General Community on Senate at The University of Western Ontario. The term of the General Community Representative starts no later than July 1, 2011 and ends on June 30, 2013 with the possibility of renewal for an additional two years. The nominee must be active in or associated with the field of secondary school education and cannot be a student or employee of the university. Nominations must be received by Friday, March 18, 2011.

Renowned speaker Wade Davis to speak at Western on March 11.

Eight student organizations have come together to bring Wade Davis to campus for a speech on Friday, March 11 at 6:00 p.m. in Nat. Sci. room 145. Wade Davis is an explorer-in-residence from the National Geographic, best-selling author, anthropologist from Harvard University, TED speaker, and an active voice for the environment, all cultures and human diversity.

His lecture is entitled:

The Ethnosphere: Humanity's Greatest Legacy

PUBLIC INVITED TO SCREEN ARGENTINEAN FILMMAKER’S WORK

In conjunction with an upcoming visit to The University of Western Ontario by  internationally-renowned director, filmmaker and politician, Fernando Solanas, Londoners are invited to share in a series of public screenings showcasing this artist’s films.  Free evening screenings are scheduled during his three-day visit from February 15-17 and all take place at 8 p.m. in University College, Room 84. On Tuesday, February 15, film-goers can view Memoria del Saqueo / Social Genocide (with English subtitles) followed by a question and answer period with Solanas.  On Wednesday, February 16, viewers can see Tierra Sublevada - Oro Impuro (with English subtitles) and on Thursday, February 17, Solanas will showcase film projects of Western students and provide commentary.  For more information on the work of Fernando Solanas, visit www.pinosolanas.com and for more information on the free public screenings, please contact Chris Gittings at 519-661-2111 ext. 85781 or gittings@uwo.ca

Founder’s Day is celebrated annually by the Western community on March 7. It is a time for the University to remember the contributions of its founders and celebrate our students, staff, faculty and alumni and their accomplishments.
