Football team raises $10,000 for Ronald McDonald House

The Western Mustangs football team has raised $10,000 for Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario's expansion campaign in a Lift-Off event held in late April. Funds were raised by players who received donations for their efforts in their annual year-end Lift-Off, featuring skill-testing drills, similar to those seen in a football combine.

Medical clinic opens in Ilderton to train family doctors

The Department of Family Medicine at Western's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry officially opened a new medical clinicon June 11 in Ilderton to train family physicians.
“This is the first new core teaching site for the Department of Family Medicine in over 30 years. We are marking a milestone event that represents the culmination of a remarkable collaboration between the community of Ilderton, its physicians, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, the Department of Family Medicine, and the Government of Ontario,” says Dr. Tom Freeman, the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine.

Lessons in rural medicine

First-year Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry medical students travelled to 32 communities in southwestern Ontario to experience life as a rural or regional doctor during Discovery Week, May 31-June 3. They spent the four days visiting hospitals and health care centres, observing physicians and helping with patient care. On June 4, they returned to the classroom to share their experiences.

Western building and prof honoured with 'Green Awards'

Two 'green' awards will be added to the shelves of the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion and Biology and Geography Adjunct Professor Jane Bowles, having been recognized by the Urban League of London with community awards.
