Environmentalism and Elections in Canada:
Assessing Recent Trends
Concern for the environment has grown around the world. Cameron Anderson, assistant professor of political science at Western, will explore the extent to which environmental concern is a left-right ideological issue in the minds of Canadians and assess the impact of environmentalism on the ways in which citizens view and vote for Canada's major political parties.

Target Earth: Impacts Large and Small
The Earth is constantly bombarded by asteroids and comets. Peter Brown, physics & astronomy associate professor at Western, will discuss the threat these extraterrestrial impacts pose, and how they also offer researchers unparalleled opportunities to better understand our solar system and how it formed.

Using examples from Canada and other countries, Julia O'Sullivan, Western's Dean of Education, will explore the "golden ticket" for school success. What is the golden ticket? Why is it so important? How do we ensure that every child receives at least one? What needs to be done and who needs to do it?

What’s So Funny?
Studying the Psychology
of Humour and Laughter
What can science tell us about the nature and effects of humour and laughter? Rod Martin, Western professor and expert on the psychology of humour, will explore recent research findings on the role of humour and laughter in personal relationships and in mental and physical health.

H1N1 and You
Join Bhagirath Singh for a lesson on the science behind the H1N1 virus. Learn about its origins, its impact and what you can do to stay healthy. Dr. Singh is Scientific Director of the Institute of Infection & Immunity at Western, one of 13 institutes of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. He is also a microbiology and immunology professor in Westerns Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and a scientist at Robarts Research Institute.
